Job Title: Super 8 Camera Technician Apprentice

Employment Type: Full-Time (In-Store)

Schedule: Part time, 20 hours a week with the opportunity to move into full time

Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM with a full medical, dental and paid timeoff package.

Department: Camera Tech Department

Reports To: Lead Camera Technician / Camera Department Manager

Compensation: Hourly (based on experience)

Role Overview

The Super 8 Camera Technician Apprentice is a hands-on, entry-to-mid-level technical role focused on learning the craft of building, maintaining, and repairing Super 8 cameras. This position works closely with senior technicians to support the assembly and restoration of proprietary camera models, including the Rhonda Cam, Pro518, and Pro412/617 XL systems.

This role is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and eager to develop specialized skills in analog camera systems and precision equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Camera Assembly & Build Support

• Assist in the assembly and rebuilding of Super 8 cameras, including proprietary models such as Rhonda Cam, Pro518, and Pro412/617 XL
• Learn internal camera systems, including mechanical, electrical, and optical components
• Support camera upgrades, modifications, and custom builds

Repair & Maintenance

• Assist in diagnosing and repairing Super 8 camera issues under the guidance of senior technicians
• Perform basic repairs, part replacements, and preventative maintenance
• Learn proper disassembly and reassembly techniques across various camera models

Parts & Component Handling

• Identify, organize, and manage camera parts and components
• Assist in breaking down cameras for usable parts and inventory
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace

Testing & Quality Control

• Support camera testing procedures to ensure functionality and performance
• Assist in identifying mechanical or operational issues during testing
• Learn and uphold quality control standards for outgoing camera builds

Training & Development

• Receive hands-on training in Super 8 camera systems and analog film technology
• Develop skills in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and precision repair
• Gain experience working with both legacy and modernized film camera equipment

Skills & Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in hands-on technical work
• Ability to work with small parts and precision tools
• Detail-oriented with a high level of care and patience
• Willingness to learn and take direction in a technical environment
• Interest in film cameras, analog technology, or cinematography highly preferred
• Prior technical, repair, or assembly experience is a plus, but not required
