Job Overview – Controller (Professional Services)

Compensation: $140,000 – $160,000/year + bonus

Location: Montgomery County, PA

Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)

Atlantic Group is hiring a Controller (Professional Services) in Montgomery County, PA for our client, overseeing firmwide accounting, financial reporting, treasury, and payroll operations. This hybrid role manages the full month-end close, supervises core accounting functions, supports budgeting and forecasting, and partners closely with the CFO on financial strategy, compliance, and operational improvements across the firm and affiliated entities.

Responsibilities as the Controller (Professional Services):

  • General Ledger & Close Management: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliations, and timely month-end close with full financial reporting.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare monthly financial statements, account analyses, FTE reporting, and management reports to support leadership decision-making.
  • Treasury & Cash Management: Manage daily cash activity, cash flow planning, online banking administration, payment approvals, and fraud prevention controls.
  • AP, Payroll & Benefits Oversight: Oversee vendor payments, payroll review and processing, tax withholdings, 401(k) administration, and employee onboarding and offboarding support.
  • Tax, Compliance & Projects: Support tax filings, quarterly payments, annual 1099 preparation, compliance requirements, ancillary business reporting, and finance system implementations.

Qualifications for the Controller (Professional Services):

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required (CPA preferred).
  • Experience: 8+ years of accounting experience in a professional services environment, including people management experience, with law firm exposure strongly preferred.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of professional services accounting, legal billing systems, treasury operations, payroll, and multi-entity financial structures.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite, with experience using legal or professional services billing and accounting systems.
  • Skills & Attributes: Highly organized, analytical leader with strong budgeting and forecasting expertise, excellent time management, sound judgment, and the ability to operate independently while partnering effectively with senior leadership.
