Grand Island Tourism is the destination marketing organization for Grand Island and Hall County in central Nebraska, a region known for the Nebraska State Fair and the annual Spring Migration of the Sandhill Cranes. Other notable attractions include the Heartland Public Shooting Park, renowned as a premier shooting range, and Fonner Park, which hosts live horse racing and houses the Heartland Events Center. The area’s state-of-the-art fairgrounds span nearly 500,000 square feet and host local, regional, and national events year-round. Job description:

Reports To: Executive Director

Nature of Work

This is a part-time position with flexible hours. The Bookkeeper also serves as a front-facing representative of the organization and is expected to provide a friendly, welcoming experience for visitors and guests.

This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to engage with tourists, provide helpful local information, and manage inquiries both in person and digitally. The ideal candidate demonstrates professionalism, and the ability to multitask while maintaining a positive and customer-focused environment.

Primary Function: Bookkeeping and Financial Administration

Responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the organization’s overall financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

● Maintain and update financial records for all receipts and disbursements

● Prepare and process bank deposits

● Manage accounts payable and receivable, including coding and processing monthly bills

● Complete monthly bank and account reconciliations

● Prepare accurate financial reports using QuickBooks Online

● Process payroll and manage associated tax filings and benefit reporting

● Ensure proper organization and compliance of financial documentation

● Support financial tracking, reporting, and internal recordkeeping needs

● Perform other financial duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Education and Experience

The required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through one of the following:

● Associate’s degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, or a related field; or

● Three (3) years of experience in bookkeeping or financial recordkeeping; or

● An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

● Knowledge of accounting principles and standard bookkeeping practices

● Proficiency in QuickBooks-online and Google Workspace (or similar software)

● Strong attention to detail and accuracy

● Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information

● Effective written and verbal communication skills

● Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Special Requirements

● Valid motor vehicle operator’s license

● Position may require a background and credit check

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in an office setting under normal conditions. Occasional travel may be required.

Equipment Operation

Computer, calculator, copier, telephone, printer, scanner, and related software applications.
