Staff Mechanical Engineer – Pipeline & Facilities

Kansas City, MO | Permanent / Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to support the design and execution of pipeline and natural gas facility projects . This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong foundation in mechanical and piping design , looking to grow within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across pipeline and facility projects, working closely with cross-functional teams and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical engineering design and analysis for natural gas pipelines and facilities
  • Design stations and facilities, including piping systems and material specifications
  • Develop P&IDs, isometrics, piping plans, and equipment layouts
  • Perform engineering calculations including pipe stress analysis, pressure relief, and equipment sizing
  • Select and specify mechanical equipment (compressors, valves, regulators, meters, etc.)
  • Prepare technical reports, studies, and documentation
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Civil, Electrical, I&C, Environmental, etc.)
  • Review vendor submittals and support technical bid evaluations
  • Support construction activities including RFIs, field visits, and as-built documentation
  • Assist with proposals, scopes, cost estimates, and project schedules
  • Ensure compliance with ASME, API, and CFR codes and standards
  • Participate in client meetings and contribute to business development efforts

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited) + 3+ years of experience
  • OR
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology (ABET-accredited) + FE/EIT certification + 3+ years of experience
  • OR
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering + 2+ years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Mechanical and piping design
  • P&IDs, plans/sections, and isometric drawings
  • Pipe stress analysis and hydraulic modeling
  • Experience with engineering tools and software (AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, methods, and problem-solving techniques
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in consulting engineering environments
  • Familiarity with codes and standards such as:
  • ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8
  • API 520/521
  • 49 CFR Part 192
  • Experience with hydraulic and HVAC analysis tools
  • EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification
