Job Description

Manufacturing Operations business unit is accepting online applications for the position of Process Operator located in Pasadena, Texas, through May 4th at 11:59 p.m. (Center Standard Time).

The operator position is responsible for performing duties associated with the treating and refining of crude oil while maintaining a safe, reliable, and environmentally sound environment.

Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift, overtime as required, and on-call throughout the year.
  • Successful completion of the Formal Operator Training Program (FOTP) or refresher, including assigned unit qualification.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the assigned processing unit (Distillation, Hydrotreating, Reforming, Steam/Utility Production, etc.) and be able to effectively communicate the process to others.
  • Safely, efficiently, and reliably operate furnaces, pumps, compressors, and other mechanical equipment that process raw materials, feedstocks, and product transfers.
  • Understand and adhere to refinery and global Chevron standards, policies, processes, procedures, and regulatory requirements to sustain a safe workplace.
  • Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, including detailed electronic/written turnover, legible permits, detailed work orders/requests, clear communication of Unit status, and clear e-mail communications.
  • Understanding of complex troubleshooting and application of problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions.
  • Working knowledge of processing equipment (pumps, Compressors, Control Valves, Level Instruments/Gauges, Transmitters, and Flow Elements) and common troubleshooting for each component.
  • Build positive relationships and rapport with both internal and external partners to Chevron.
  • Perform assigned duties such as routine equipment monitoring, minor maintenance, repairs, housekeeping, and emergency response requirements. (Ex. filling oil lubricators, lubricating valves, replacing gauges, etc.)
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer applications and other electronic tools.
  • Must be able to work independently, take initiative, and act on opportunities. Ability to plan and organize own work. Ability to multitask with changing priorities and assignments.
Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Minimum of one (2) year of work experience as a Process Unit Operator within a refinery/petrochemical plant within the last five (5) years or a graduate of an accredited process operations technology program (Ex. CPET at San Jacinto College) within last five (5) years.
  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to working safely as well as incident and injury-free operations.
  • Must pass Fit-for-Duty testing, including being able to work at heights with appropriate fall protection, climb, crawl, stand and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including: full-body coveralls, protective footwear, hard-hats, hearing protection, eye protection, full-face respirators, and/or self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Must obtain a TWIC card within 2 months of employment.
  • Must pass the online pre-employment testing process.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's/Technical Degree from a Process Technology Program with Industry Experience or Military Service
  • Demonstrated knowledge of previous processing units and has the ability to relate them to others.
  • The Operator Trainee position is subject to a local union contract labor agreement, including a probationary period. Benefits for trainees are noted in the labor agreement.
