Role Description

This is a contract on-site role for a Freelance Ilocano Interpreter, based in Seattle, WA. The interpreter will be responsible for facilitating effective communication between Ilocano-speaking individuals and English-speaking individuals, ensuring accuracy and cultural sensitivity in diverse settings. The role may involve in-person verbal interpretation in healthcare, legal, educational, or community environments. The interpreter is expected to manage confidential information appropriately and ensure clear, impartial communication in different contexts.

Qualifications

• Proficient fluency in Ilocano and English, with excellent verbal communication skills in both languages
• Proven experience in interpretation, particularly in healthcare, legal, or community settings
• Strong cultural competency and ability to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps effectively
• Professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to remain impartial during sensitive dialogues
• Flexibility to adapt to various interpretation scenarios and quick-thinking skills during conversations
• Certifications or training in interpretation preferred but not required
• Familiarity with the code of ethics and standards of practice for professional interpreters is a plus
