Under the direct supervision of the Research Data Supervisor II, the Research Data Analyst I supports the administration of the CalPERS Health Benefits Program through data analysis, research, reporting, and data quality activities. The position works with healthcare utilization, enrollment, premium, provider, and other health program data to respond to information requests, conduct analyses, identify and resolve data issues, and support operational and policy decision-making. The incumbent prepares reports, presentations, and other analytical products for internal and external stakeholders.
This position is well suited for recent college graduates and early-career professionals with strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. Statement of Qualifications

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Public Policy, Public Administration, Economics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Math, Statistics, or a related field
- Education and work experience working with large datasets through a software as a service (SaaS) graphical user interface or program language
- Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Bi and Visio
- Experience using programming languages such SQL, SAS, R, Python, or similar data analytical tools to clean, query, analyze, visualize, and/or interpret data
- Understanding of completed staff work, drafting reports, and business intelligence concepts
- Knowledge of or interest in healthcare data
- Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret information to identify trends, answer questions, and support decision-making
- Ability to prepare summary analyses, presentations, spreadsheets, and other materials that communicate information clearly and effectively
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated initiative, professionalism, dependability, adaptability, and a willingness to learn new systems, tools, and processes
